What would happen to a person who leaves Islam?

Q4. Host: What if a person changes his mind and leaves the religion of Islam? What would happen to him according to the Koran? (1:41)

Answer

Dr. Labib: This man or woman would be called 'apostate'. And if a man or a woman apostates from Islam, he or she will be given a chance to deny their conversion, say to Christianity. If they deny, that's OK, finished, case closed. If they insist to embrace Christianity, they will be executed, because they would not accept that a Muslim will be converted to Christianity. And that explains, you see, if you go to Saudi Arabia, and anyone, any Muslim in Saudi Arabia who would be converted to Christianity, he will be beheaded. There is no mercy, he will be beheaded. And that is under our eyes, here, in the 21st century, you know. It is the same in any Islamic country. You cannot be converted to Christianity, if you are a Muslim, unless you are ready to risk your life, and to be executed.

Muslims take judgment into their own hands .Isnt God one supposed to judge us all, you act as though you speak for God, God almighty gave man free-will knowing very well what man can do with it then who are you to take away What God has given. \then they say "we are the infidels" If the religion is so strong, real and only true religion , representing, Let God defend it. Even the Quran says Christians aren't to be harshly treated..The Sheer know very well the foundation has to based on Fear for people not to leave their religion. God judges us individualy, do your deeds, preach your word and let people make their choices ,just you have the free will to choose to Behead someone , let others have their free will. You contradict your words as all time, You say " men and are equal but go forbid the woman to marry outside the religion she might convert but don't impose that one men. Your Quran says Christians aren't to be seen as enemies but you cut off heads when one chooses to join them

This is a good example of the difference between the amount of grace and love in the Islamic and Christian faiths as there is no such punishment for Christians. Such a harsh punishment may keep people who grew up Muslim from converting from sheer fear. The result would be a completely insincere faith that would serve no purpose exept to save that person's life. I think the death penalty would cause more trouble in the religion than good.

This shows ur uneducated about ur own religion because there are even some messed up stuff in the bible.

If Muslims believe in free will and God gave us free will then how weak it is of man to take away that which God has given. Man can choose any religion at any time and he has the free will given to him by God. For man to take away that free will is an abomination to God.

Muslims always go in a state of denial when they are confronted with the Sharia punishment for apostasy (and other cruelties prescribed by Islam). And will alway refer to the same few tolerant verses 2:257 and 18:30 from the Qu'ran. Like done in comment #19 by Aisha. Those tolerant verses are all abrogated by Soera 9 which is the one but last revelation. According to Islam doctrine, older verses are inferior to more recent verses. There are so many hateful verses in the Qu'ran. Take Soera 2 verses 6-7, 10, 16-18, 39, 65 (Jews are apes), 85, 88, 89, 90, 96, 98, ..., 286 (give us victory over the disbelieving folk.) All of these are aimed at unbelievers and promises hell, fire and doom.

The fact is that while recanting Islam is a sin, there is absolutely no worldly punishment prescribed by Islam for it. Islam places great stress on freedom of conscience, including the freedom to choose one’s religion, as one of the fundamental rights of all human beings. The Quran clearly states, “There should be no compulsion in religion” (2:257); and also “It is the truth from your Lord; wherefore let him who will believe and let him who will disbelieve” (18:30). These verses prove that man is free to choose the religion that makes him happy, and that rejecting Islam is not a crime.

If Islam has high value for choice in believing..... then why does it come with threat of death? Sounds like slavery!

I've read a few of the comments and I just thought to myself, if it said that only a Muslim who prays and does all that is required of Allah then he/she will be granted janaat... So what happens to everyone else who was not born a Muslim around the world, for example a Chinese person who prays sincerely to his type of God that he regards as the most holiest, where does this type of person go to? Heaven or hell?

I agree, Aidan. It seems odd to me that a holy text would say not to befriend certain people groups. Perhaps I do not have a full understanding.

This causes me to wonder how accepting certain Muslim cultures would be to the questioning of their religion. Would that be considered going against the faith?

That's actually a good point. The inability to switch religions also reminds of the Church of Scientology. Thank you for bringing the point that Islam can be considered cult-like.
